Story:
Altieri Specialty Coffee is a family-owned group of coffee farms based in Boquete, Panama. Founded by Italian-American businessman Eugene Altieri, the family has been dedicated to cultivating specialty coffee for over 15 years. Their farms, Mima Estate in Callejón Seco and Pipim Estate in Alto Lino, are located at elevations ranging from 1,600 to 2,200 meters above sea level on the eastern slopes of the Baru Volcano. The region’s volcanic soil and distinct microclimates—shaped by the convergence of Pacific and Atlantic winds—create ideal conditions for producing exceptional coffee.
The Altieri family specializes in growing highly sought-after coffee varieties, including Geisha, Typica, Catuai, and Caturra. Their commitment to quality has earned them recognition in prestigious coffee competitions. Their Geisha beans, in particular, are celebrated for their complex flavor profiles, featuring notes of tropical fruits, berries, citrus, herbs, and stone fruits—varying by lot and processing method.
Beyond quality, the Altieri family prioritizes sustainability. They use organic fertilizers, cultivate native shade trees to support agroforestry, and carefully manage water usage during coffee processing. Additionally, coffee pulp byproducts are composted to enrich the soil, ensuring an eco-friendly approach to farming.
Eugene Altieri’s legacy continues through his children, who are actively expanding the Altieri Specialty Coffee brand while staying true to the family’s core values of excellence and sustainability.
